BBB opposes fireworks ban: questions on shows and exemptions
In December 2025, BBB opposed the proposed nationwide Dutch fireworks ban. The party questioned whether central displays and neighbourhood association activities could offer a practical alternative to the existing fireworks tradition.
Caroline van der Plas submitted parliamentary questions on BBB’s behalf about how those alternatives would work.
Are there enough people for professional displays?
The party raised the availability of trained pyrotechnicians, training opportunities and the length of permit procedures.
BBB also wanted to know whether smaller municipalities would have enough staff and funding to organise a central display.
What requirements apply to neighbourhood associations?
Another set of questions concerned local exemptions. BBB requested clarity on expertise, storage facilities, safety distances and insurance.
The party also asked whether volunteers organising a neighbourhood activity could realistically meet these conditions.
Differences between municipalities
BBB asked how differences in the assessment of applications would be avoided. It raised national guidance for municipalities and the role of mayors in granting exemptions.
