Refilling a torch lighter: steps and common problems

Want to refill a refillable torch lighter? Use the gas and filling method specified by the manufacturer. Here is what to consider when preparing, refilling and using it again.

1. Let the lighter cool completely

Refill in a well-ventilated area, away from flames, sparks and heat sources. Check for damage first. Do not refill a damaged or leaking lighter.

2. Check the product instructions

Check which gas and nozzle are suitable. Also check whether the flame setting needs adjustment beforehand and whether purging is required. Only do this as the manufacturer instructs.

3. Use the specified filling position

Hold the lighter and gas can as directed. Make sure the nozzle fits and do not force the filling valve.

4. Avoid overfilling

Follow the specified filling duration. Stop if gas escapes around the connection and check it before continuing.

5. Wait before using the lighter

Observe the waiting time in the instructions. Only use the lighter once escaped gas has dispersed and the device has returned to the specified operating temperature.

6. Check operation

Adjust a variable flame according to the instructions. When testing, keep the lighter away from your face, clothing and flammable materials.

Lighter not working after refilling?

Check the safety lock, flame setting and whether you observed the waiting time. Also check that you used the correct gas.

Only carry out maintenance described in the instructions. If the lighter keeps leaking or working irregularly, stop using it and contact the seller.
