Fireworks Ban From August 1, 2026? Dutch Parliament Approves Nationwide Fireworks Ban

The nationwide Dutch consumer-fireworks ban took effect on 1 August 2026 and applies for the first time during New Year's Eve 2026–2027. Consumers in the Netherlands may no longer buy, possess or set off fireworks in categories F2, F3 and F4. Category F1 remains exempt.

Professional fireworks displays remain possible with the required permits. A mayor may also grant an exemption, subject to conditions, to a locally connected foundation or association. The precise application process and conditions may differ by municipality.

What does this mean in practice?

Only light F1 fireworks, such as sparklers and throwdowns, remain available to consumers. Rockets, cakes, compound fireworks and other F2, F3 or F4 products may no longer be bought, brought into the Netherlands, possessed or set off by consumers. Legal availability in another country therefore does not automatically make import or possession legal in the Netherlands.
