Buying fireworks in Germany: what is allowed in the Netherlands?
Planning to buy fireworks in Germany? Check both German sales conditions and Dutch rules. A product sold by a German shop is not automatically permitted for possession or use in the Netherlands.
Which fireworks may Dutch consumers possess?
A nationwide Dutch consumer ban on F2, F3 and F4 fireworks has applied since 1 August 2026. F1 remains exempt. Buying in Germany does not change these rules.
Check the packaging and instructions
Do not rely solely on a product name, photograph or seller’s description. Check the category on the packaging, Dutch-language instructions, age requirement and safety distance.
The same Dutch product requirements apply to fireworks bought abroad.
Buying with a KvK registration
Some German shops offer business sales. Registration with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, or KvK, is not general permission to transport fireworks to the Netherlands, store them or use them.
Ask which purchase documents are required and separately check the permissions your business needs.
Prepare your purchase carefully
Check current shop conditions and official government information before ordering. Do not base your decision on estimates of the likelihood of a border check.
