Dutch fireworks rules: which fireworks are still allowed?
A nationwide consumer fireworks ban has applied in the Netherlands since 1 August 2026. F1 fireworks remain exempt. Consumers may no longer buy, possess or set off fireworks in categories F2, F3 or F4.
Which fireworks remain permitted?
F1 includes small items such as sparklers, throw-down snaps and certain small fountains. Always check the category on the packaging: the product name or size alone is not enough.
Follow the instructions, age requirement and safety distance. F1 can be used throughout the year, but also take local rules into account.
Professional shows and local exemptions
Professional fireworks displays remain possible with the required permissions. Foundations and associations may also obtain a municipal exemption for New Year under certain conditions.
Such an exemption is not general permission for individual consumers. Check the conditions and application procedure with the municipality.
Buying fireworks abroad
The sale of fireworks in Germany or Belgium does not mean you may bring them into the Netherlands. Dutch possession and use rules still apply.
